Fundamentals of the Healthcare Industry
This education module provides a foundation understanding of the healthcare industry. The module describes the overall structure, roles, functions and interactions of the major industry players, including healthcare delivery organizations (hospitals and health systems), physician practices, health insurers, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare suppliers, group purchasing organizations, government, regulatory agencies and employers. An overview of the major functions and organization of hospitals is provided. It also covers the basics of healthcare finance including how hospitals and physicians generate revenue, receive reimbursement and major cost elements.
